Desmond and the Very Mean Word by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Douglas Carlton Abrams illustrated by AG Ford
Based on a true story from Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s childhood in South Africa, Desmond and the Very Mean Word reveals the power of words and the secret of forgiveness.
When Desmond takes his new bicycle out for a ride through his neighborhood, his pride and joy turn to hurt and anger when a group of boys shout a very mean word at him. He first responds by shouting an insult, but soon discovers that fighting back with mean words doesn’t make him feel any better. With the help of kindly Father Trevor, Desmond comes to understand his conflicted feelings and see that all people deserve compassion, whether or not they say they are sorry. Brought to vivid life in A. G. Ford’s energetic illustrations, this heartfelt, relatable story conveys timeless wisdom about how to handle bullying and angry feelings, while seeing the good in everyone.
Here are a few sneak peak shots of the interiors from drawing to finish!

My New Book with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!!

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, basketball legend and the NBA's alltime leading scorer, champions a lineup
of little-known African-American inventors in this lively, kid-friendly book.
Did you know that James West invented the microphone in your cell phone? That Fred Jones invented the refrigerated truck that makes supermarkets possible? Or that Dr. Percy Julian synthesized cortisone from soy, easing untold people's pain? These are just some of the black inventors and innovators scoring big points in this dynamic look at several unsung heroes who shared a desire to improve people's lives. Offering profiles with fast facts on flaps and framed by a funny contemporary story featuring two feisty twins, here is a nod to the minds behind the gamma electric cell and the ice-cream scoop, improvements to traffic lights, open-heart surgery, and more - inventors whose ingenuity and perseverance against great odds made our world safer, better, and brighter.

Summer Jackson: Grown Up By Teresa E. Harris, illustrated by AG Ford

Meet Summer Jackson.
Summer is fairly certain she's ready to be a grown-up—right now. She wants to wear a blazer, read the morning paper, and boss around a few second graders. Grown-ups have it so easy! But wait, do grown-ups play on swings?
Teresa E. Harris and AG Ford's hilarious story shows that being a kid might not be so bad after all.

Interval .0

Here is a bit more work done to the portrait of my brother I've been working on in my down time. I got a chance to work on the hand a bit, but its been so long since i worked on this portrait, that my color combinations were thrown off a bit. Notice how much warmer the hand is than the face. This is only the underpainting, but this will play a roll, we will see how it turns out. Thanks for viewing!

Drawings from "Goal"

Here are a few final drawings from the "Goal" book. These two drawings were some of my favorite spreads to paint. They offered intense emotion and also a climatic point in the story where I had the chance to show action throughout a piece. Enjoy! Also, checkout the finished "Zora and Me" cover on my site here!
